Dozens are dead and even more injured after an attack on a Moscow concert hall

 At least 60 people have been killed and 145 others injured after several gunmen wearing camouflage burst into a concert venue on the outskirts of Moscow Friday. A fire broke out with flames visible from miles away. The whereabouts of the gunmen remains unknown.

The U.S. believes a group known as Islamic State Khorasan Province, or ISIS-K, is responsible, an administration official told NPR. The group, based in eastern Afghanistan, had claimed responsibility on its Telegram channel.

The U.S. warned Russia earlier this month that it had information about a planned terror attack in Moscow, potentially targeting concerts, said National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson in a statement.

Concertgoers had gathered at Moscow's Crocus City Hall venue to see the veteran Russian rock band Picnic when several armed gunmen in military fatigues entered.

Witness videos on social media show at least three attackers firing at bystanders as they attempted to hide. Other images show people lying on the ground in the main concert hall before a fire breaks out and spreads, trapping some inside. Several people were spotted on the venue's roof.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said "a huge tragedy has occurred" as the number of dead is expected to rise, and expressed his condolences.

Some Russian officials are suggesting there must be some Ukrainian role, a claim the Ukrainians deny. Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tweeted "Ukraine certainly had nothing to do with the shooting in the Crocus City Hall. It makes no sense whatsoever."

The White House issued a statement calling the attack "terrible" and saying there was "no indication at this time" of a Ukrainian role in the attack.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the images of the shooting were "horrible and hard to watch." The U.S. embassy in Moscow has warned U.S. citizens to avoid the area.

Moscow was the scene of a hostage crisis at the Dubrovka theater in 2002, in which Chechen gunmen demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya took some 800 theatergoers hostage. A raid by Russian security forces to end the crisis killed or caused the deaths of 172 people.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova called on the international community to condemn the incident, calling it "a monstrous crime."

Drake Bell recreates the Drake and Josh set for a music video After revealing he had been sexually abused

 

Drake Bell is using his new music as a way to process his experience.

The 37-year-old singer-actor released "I Kind of Relate," a new song on his experience, along with a music video a few days after disclosing that he had been sexually abused as a child actor on Nickelodeon.


The song, "running away / From the abuse and all the shame," and the video, which has him on a television set that looks like it could be from his old Nickelodeon series, Drake and Josh, seem to be references to his past.

"This song was inspired by my past and now that my story is being told I felt the time was right to share it," Bell wrote in the caption of the video on YouTube.

A little boy is shown in the beginning of the film reading aloud on a TV before an adult guy ushers him into a trailer and shuts the blinds. The outside of the trailer and the back of the chair both say "Drake Bell," when he stands up.

Then, Bell himself makes an appearance in the film, seated in a car and appearing to have just survived a collision with blood on his face.

Following surgery, the "Found a Way" singer watches what looks to be a group therapy session. Eventually, he takes up a guitar in a scene that mirrors the bedroom that Josh Nichols (played by Josh Peck), the character's step-brother, and his character, Drake Parker, shared on Drake and Josh.

"I kind of relate / I found beauty in my pain / I’m running away / From the abuse and all the shame," he sings on the pop-rock song. "‘Cause no one comes / To my house anymore / No one knocks on my door / I kind of relate / The wrong decisions I have made / I wanted to stay / But I couldn’t last another day / My golden days / They seem so far and gray / So I’m running away (running away)."

The former cast member of The Amanda Show spoke up on Instagram shortly after the release of "I Kind of Relate" on Monday, sharing the story behind the images of a vehicle crash in the music video.

Tiktoker Brian Chira Wambui has died following a hit-and-run car accident

 After being involved in a hit-and-run vehicle accident, well-known Kenyan Tiktoker Brian Chira Wambui passed away.

The contentious influencer is alleged to have been struck by a speeding lorry on Saturday at approximately 4 a.m. while intoxicated in the Gacharage district on the Ndenderu-Ruaka Road in Kiambu County.


According to Pius Mwanthi, Kiambaa sub-county OCPD, Chira was struck by a white canter on his way home from a night out with a companion.

According to a police record obtained by Citizen Digital and submitted at the Karuri Traffic Base, Chira was being driven home by his friend Zeleck Momanyi Alfonso on a motorcycle at the time of the accident.


Rumor has it that Momanyi ran into Chira outside Ciero Resort after the latter was ejected by security for reportedly stirring up trouble in the entertainment establishment.

"It happened that they were coming from Ciero Resort at the Gacharage area near Total Petrol Station where Zeleck Momanyi Alfonso had passed while on his way to his house and found Brian Chira being taken out of the resort by security guards claiming he was drunk and causing chaos and the resort was closing," according to the police report.

Chira allegedly got off the motorcycle at the Gacharage roundabout, raced to the main road, got knocked down, and passed out right there.

"Upon reaching Gacharage roundabout, Brian requested Momanyi and the rider of the motorcycle namely Abdul Charo via phone to take him to his house and they then passed the service lane towards Ruaka but headed towards Ndenderu on the wrong side and on reaching the location of the accident, Brian alighted and ran to the main road," stated the report,

"Zeleck Momanyi then followed him for he was drunk and before he could reach him, he was hit by a white canter which did not stop."
His body has since been taken to the City Mortuary.

NIT bracket 2024: Tournament schedule, dates, times as Wake Forest, Villanova highlight No. 1 seeds

 For the 2024 NIT, Seton Hall, Wake Forest, Indiana State, and Villanova earned the top seeds. The 32-team field was revealed on Sunday, and college locations will host competitions starting on Tuesday. The semifinals and championship game of the tournament will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 2 and April 4, respectively.

The NIT will debut a new look in this year. The first twelve NIT automatic bids and the privilege to host first-round games will go to the top two teams from the NET rankings from each of the major six conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12, SEC), provided they did not make it to the NCAA Tournament.

Following their elimination from the NCAA Tournament, several high-major institutions, including Oklahoma, Pitt, St. John's, and Indiana, turned down invitations to the NIT. Preseason No. 1 North Carolina last year turned down an offer.

Madison Square Garden has always hosted the semifinals and final of the tournament, but starting in 2023, the NCAA will start "accepting bids from numerous cities" to host it.

Scottie Scheffler wins The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in year 50

The Players Championship crowned a repeat champion, Scottie Scheffler, for the first time in its 50-year history.

In the final round on Sunday, Scheffler prevailed in a thrilling four-way struggle ahead of Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, and Brian Harman, despite suffering from neck pain and taking on the top players on the PGA Tour amidst the hazards of the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.

Clark's birdie putt on hole eighteen almost forced a playoff, but it lipped out.

In the final round, Scheffler overcame a five-stroke deficit with a 64, and he finished the tournament at 20 under, becoming the first back-to-back winner of the Gold Man Trophy in The Players' golden jubilee. Each of Clark, Harman, and Schauffele scored 19 under.

The 27-year-old Dallas resident joins Jack Nicklaus, Hal Sutton, Davis Love III, Fred Couples, Steve Elkington, and Tiger Woods as the eighth man to win the Players multiple times.

Scheffler started with an eagle on No. 4, having undergone therapy on Friday and Saturday for neck stiffness that was impeding his backswing and his ability to shape shots. He then went on to add birdies on Nos. 5, 8, 9, 11, 12, and lastly No. 16 to take the lead entirely. He finished with a par on the tricky 18th hole.

Since Greg Norman won at 24 under at the 1994 Players, the winning score was the lowest at The Players. Scheffler's final-round 64, along with Couples' in 1996 and Love's in 2003, matched for the lowest of any Players champion.

 

Harman, a resident of St. Simons Island, needed a birdie at 18 to force a playoff. He managed to get past pine straw and find the green in two, but he was unable to sink the birdie putt from 17 feet, 4 inches.

At the Island Green, morning leader Schauffele had an opportunity to tie Scheffler, but he missed a birdie putt from six feet, eight inches. Then, on hole 18, he erred badly on his tee shot into the pine straw, forcing him to approach the hole more than sixty feet away. His putt for the birdie went just wide to the right of the cup.

After making birdies at 16 and 17, Clark attempted to narrow the distance. On 18, he approached the cup from nearly the exact same distance—17 feet and 4 inches—as Harman. Just when it looked like it was about to drop, his putt bounced out and rolled around the rim.

Chelsea: Manager Mauricio Pochettino claims that several younger players are "struggling with the pressure."

 According to manager Mauricio Pochettino, some of Chelsea's younger players are "struggling a little bit to deal with the pressure" of representing the team.

When the Argentine took over last summer, the Blues made a big play for young players.

Cole Palmer, 21, is an obvious standout as the top goalscorer since leaving Manchester City.

Pochettino said: "Not all the players have the same process to settle in at the club [as Palmer] or to perform."

With Monday's 3-2 victory over Newcastle, Palmer scored his 11th Premier League goal of the year, moving Chelsea up to 11th in the standings after they ended 12th the previous season.

The Blues also fell short against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on penalties; but, they are still in the FA Cup and will play Championship leaders Leicester on Sunday in the quarterfinals.

 

Pochettino added: "One thing we cannot change is to give time to the players to get experience and be more mature.

"Yes, we are in a process that the main group, the main young players, they struggle a little bit to deal with the pressure to play for Chelsea.

"That is the thing we are, of course, aware of and we are focusing on trying to help them in all the areas.

"When you have this young squad, it's not only to help them in training, in the maybe two hours of that. We have spent a lot of time talking with the people that work around these guys, who are important too."

Another summer transfer to Chelsea was Nicolas Jackson, a 22-year-old striker from Senegal who opened the score against Newcastle with his 12th goal overall.

Didier Drogba scored 16 goals in his debut season at Stamford Bridge (2004–05), but he left the team as a Chelsea icon after spending two periods totaling 164 goals, the last one finishing in 2015.

"You all are now seeing how [Jackson] is improving," said Pochettino. "The most difficult thing was to support him when it was tough. I told you I really believe in him.

"I believe he is going to be very successful here. He has the quality and the capacity. Now he is doing much better but still needs to improve a lot.

"The numbers are similar to Drogba in his first season. That maybe gives the fans more belief in him and [they will] be a little more patient with him, but always it depends on the circumstances.

"Now I hope people can start to understand he has the condition to be very good."

Williamson leads the Pelicans over the Clippers 112-104

The Los Angeles Clippers were three games ahead of the Pelicans in fourth place in the Western Conference standings going into Friday night's game in New Orleans.

The two teams played like it from beginning to end, with a lot on the line, in front of an enthusiastic crowd that was possibly the loudest of the season at Smoothie King Center.


With everything on the line, Zion Williamson elevated his play and led the Pelicans to victory, helping New Orleans secure a crucial 112-104 victory.

In a full game, Williamson scored 34 points, grabbed seven rebounds, distributed four assists, and committed three thefts.

There was an immediate playoff vibe to the game.

Both teams guarded with tremendous physicality and energy in the opening quarter, which established the tone for the whole game, but the Clippers came out on top 22–20.
Despite shooting just 39% from the field in the first half, New Orleans played strong defense to lead 50–44 at the intermission.
Williamson led New Orleans to an 11-point lead in the third quarter with 16 points from him, but the Clippers rallied to close the quarter with a 29–20 run, cutting the margin to 82–80.

In the fourth quarter, New Orleans would not give up the lead.

Trey Murphy III led the Pelicans with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and four 3-pointers. Trey Murphy III's bench contribution was crucial as the team scored 43 points from substitutes. Jose Alvarado scored nine points, Naji Marshall scored eight, and Larry Nance Jr. had a huge game with twelve points, four rebounds, and three assists.

It was necessary since CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram were both held to 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Pelicans were careful with the ball, making only nine mistakes as opposed to the Clippers' fifteen. Los Angeles had just 18 assists compared to New Orleans' 28.

Thanks in large part to Williamson's play, which has seen him score 33 and 34 points in his past two games and average 31.3 points per game over his last three, New Orleans dominated the paint, winning by a score of 58–36. At the perfect moment, he is pushing himself to a new level.

With 16 games remaining, the Pelicans have won 40 of their season, good for fifth place in the Western Conference.

The Pelicans' defense was crucial in keeping the Clippers 10 points below their season average.

In their previous ten road games, the Clippers had eight victories. The Pelicans, who have so far proven to be a stronger road squad than home club, handled business at home.

The Pelicans now have a task as they play Portland on Saturday night in the second of a back-to-back. They must recover swiftly after the mentally and physically exhausting effort. The Blazers have a 19-47 record.
