Sachin Tendulkar appropriates top India honour Bharat Ratna

Tendulkar quit worldwide cricket in November emulating India's win over the West Indies in  Mumbai test. Tendulkar is the first sportsman to win the grant and - at 40 - the most youthful. Past beneficiaries incorporate India's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela and previous Pms Rajiv and Indira Gandhi. The grant is made on a proposal by the executive to the president. President Mukherjee introduced the honour to Tendulkar and heading researcher Prof CNR Rao at a service at Delhi's presidential castle - or Rashtrapati Bhavan - on Tuesday morning.
"I will keep on batting for India despite the fact that cricket has halted," Tendulkar was cited as saying by the Press Trust of India in the wake of getting the honor. Tendulkar had devoted the honour to his mother Rajni when he was selected for it hours after he declared his retirement a year ago. Tendulkar bowed out of worldwide cricket after his 200th Test match - 24 years and one day after his first. He played in 664 worldwide matches, scoring 34,357 runs and making 100 centuries. He scored just about 2,500 more Test runs than the second-put batsman, Ricky Ponting.
